Last day of a long summer holiday - soon I'll go swimming...

A long holiday has given time to sort all kind of things a life is filled with.
And all photos. And maybe catch up.

What happened in May:
I felt totally connected with my two work places, Konstepidemin and Blå Stället art space, when two Haiti artists, André Eugène and Jean Claude Saintilus, made a month long stop in Göteborg.

It made me realize how blessed I am, and will be even more in the future, to meet with all kinds of artists at my new job. It is a challenge to facilitate their visits and shows for maximum encounter for all. And the start of this adventure could not be better than with a Voudou Spirit theme.

Jean Claude and André are part of a group in Port au Prince, Haiti, Atiz Rezistans. Their work is highly integrated with the spiritual beliefs that live so strongly in the Haitian community. And a little brutal and yet with so much humour.

Atiz Rezistans arranges Ghetto Biennale, an international art biennial along Grand Rue, a main street of former glory in Port au Prince. Artists apply and stay for about a month to prepare their art projects.

In the one day workshop at Blå Stället with André Eugène and Jean Claude Saintilus were invited artists Faris Al-zwain, Yousra Samawi, Anna Unsgaard, Catrin Serck-Hanssen along with Faruq Omer, Ahmed Bachai och Abdulkareem Sadoon from the ORT ART group.

The Haitian guests were invited by the folk music gathering event at Konstepidemin, thanks to musician Sten Källman and his strong connection to the country.

Too much to do this spring but now I have the time to sort all random photos. These just have to be posted. Szusanna Gilice showed paper installations at the Konstepidemin Gallery in April and it was at total space experience.

it was a lovely, busy day

The open day at Konstepidemin had so many visitors, it was crowded. I didn't get to see so much of it, as we had our open studio to attend. I made a few short loops and tried to soak it all in.

Saturday September 1 - we celebrate 25 years of Konstepidemin (though I've been there for 26, one year before we officially moved in). A big part of my life!

The whole Saturday is a massive Open Day with a 130 artist exhibition in the gallery, film, over 30 open studios, workshops for kids and others, happenings, music and so on. Camilla posted a few photos from her preparations here...

Welcome! I will keep the studio open but sneak out from time to time to see what else is going on. Here is the program...

Karin Agelii is a combination of sculptor, designer and gardener. She makes, among other things, sculptures for playgrounds. Softly shaped concrete forms for children to use; sand kitchen, sand shops and more. Most people at Konstepidemin have holidays but a few of us are working hard. Hard as concrete.

A while ago we had a folk music gathering "Spelmansstämma" at Konstepidemin. Hopefully it will be a growing annual happening, for musicians in all traditions to perform but even more to meet and play together. And for us non musicians to enjoy and dance. Welcome again next summer!

Camilla Engman was a temporary neighbor all winter, subletting the studio next door to me at Konstepidemin. Now it's even better, she is a permanent resident in her own studio space since a few weeks.

Invited for premiere coffee break today, only worry it's so nice I stay too long instead of working hard as I should...

getting started

I'm slowly getting started with my commissions. First all those boring preparations before getting hands on. Teenage assistant great help assorting all old pieces stashed in buckets everywhere, while I make slip tests, order this and that and most of all clear my space. New order.

Another bigger Art Factory at Konstepidemin - Pia König's 600 small sculptures for the hotel rooms at newly opened Clarion Post hotel in Göteborg. Artists Per Agelii and Per Petersson help her with this huge undertaking, along with other helping hands.

100 rings at hnoss

At Konstepidemin until Oct 9: All previous exhibitors at Hnoss gallery was invited to show one ring, the most important piece of jewellery, in the final show at the gallery. Some sent a piece from their exhibition but many made a new ring for the occasion. It is an amazing show, one must look closely. All the rings will be on tour, after this to Tallinn.

It was a nice weekend at Konstepidemin, got us all into a more relaxed and joyful mood. Welcome, December! Open studios and lots of visitors to talk with. Christmas carols and first Lucia of the year (two weeks early).

Christmas open studio

On Saturday and Sunday we celebrate an early Christmas at Konstepidemin. Instead of the usual Christmas market quite a few of the artists will keep their studios open.
My studiopartner Ami is in ours on Saturday and I will be there on Sunday. From 12 - 16. (On Saturday I'll visit the gallery openings, see the other studios and sing Christmas carols)

biennial salon To the world!

This week I posted more at the Konstepidemin blog, things are really hectic there this week with the Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art coming up. Sneak opening and mingle at Konstepidemin satellite tonight at 6-10 pm, most welcome!

There will be a salon with many of the Konstepidemin artists in the gallery and also installations and happenings around the premises. And it will go on all autumn, inspiration every day.

I had an ambitious plan for the salon which I didn't manage fulfilling, save it for later. Instead I'll show three green little growing pieces, part on a forever ongoing project Mycelia.

Nina Zetterquist Noli me tangere/Don't touch me touches everyone. The textile- and sound installation in Pannrummet, Konstepidemin, is all about the frailty and beauty of life of girls and women and how easily it's ruined by violence and humiliation.

Last Saturday was the show opening day of the month at Konstepidemin. I thought I would just do a quick visit but spent all day. Among other happenings Lena Rydén had Open studio. She uses traditional Chinese techniques for her paintings, see more from her studio here.

I'm still struggling with finding new focus for the sketch work. So many escape doors, like doing laundry, sorting papers, making phone calls...

Back to normal Göteborg winter, different shades of grey.

This week I posted more in Konstepidemin's blogg than here. There was more to tell there, I've done mostly office job myself.

Opening Day on Saturday: among other things ceramic artists Karin Östberg and Kerstin Sarvimäki will have their studios open, and so will painter and sculptor Michaela Peterson. Textile artist Elisabet Eriksson (photo above) will open her solo show in the gallery and Erik Kuiper show jewellery at hnoss gallery. Whole Saturday program here.
