Work in progress. Next week I will go to Växjö and put all the flowers on a wall. I have a few circles to cut in the prefab mosaic to fit the flowers in; almost there.

fix and grout

To fix and grout is like copying a photo in a darkroom. You have an idea from the negative what it will look like, but will still be surprised by the result. It's so rewarding.

A new ceramic center opened this summer in Höganäs. There will be exhibitions, knowledge base and a permanent show with work from 45 south Swedish ceramic artists and potters.

rabbit rabbit

Waiting for Rabbit and Rabbit to dry, to be fired. One will be pink and one blue when ready, now freshly painted with slips. They will stand in the flowerbed at the elderlies garden I'm working with this summer, and be the non abstract element in the art piece. People suffering from dementia appreciate when they can recognize what they can see. The abstract can be very confusing.

Making rabbits was so much fun, now I just hope they will survive glazing and firings.

Another person from the past appeared; what would we do without internet? Anne Heslop, photographer I met in London after we both had experienced Kutch in the northwest corner of India. So happy to see her lovely lovely photos and that she offers her creativity and talent to charities.

Studio space expanded with the new parasol, protection from the rain more than the sun.

I'm working on the concrete parts of the piece for the elderlies place. The material needs days of nursing after forming. Concrete shall not dry out too fast, the longer it's kept wet the better. I'm so happy I have an outdoor space.

summer job

Slow and steady progress in my summer job. The deadline is set, September 1 all the elderly people move into their new place, mid August all little pieces must be in place. No stress.

fill concrete

Yesterday I got help from my sculptor neighbor Per Agelii and his careful helper Frej. We filled the first batch of elements that will be part of the commission for the garden for the elderly. They will form a rim of a square, filled with green plants and my mosaic pieces. 23 are done, 37 more to go.

concrete spread

Today is Göteborgsvarvet, 62 000 people are running half a marathon, they are brave. I've been stuck in the studio all day, all streets closed off, working with my own little marathon.

Next step is to make the shapes that will be covered with mosaic. I spread a concrete layer on top of styrofoam shapes. Feels like making a giant cake with concrete cream. First two smallest are done.

birthday work report

Work in progress, bits and pieces slowly coming together. The garden for the elderlies is ahead, most preparations done, all materals ordered and decisions made. The wall for rehab swim bath in Växjö still in test stage, but advancing.

Yesterday, birthday celebration. All greetings made me happy, both real an virtual :)

getting started

I'm slowly getting started with my commissions. First all those boring preparations before getting hands on. Teenage assistant great help assorting all old pieces stashed in buckets everywhere, while I make slip tests, order this and that and most of all clear my space. New order.

Another bigger Art Factory at Konstepidemin - Pia König's 600 small sculptures for the hotel rooms at newly opened Clarion Post hotel in Göteborg. Artists Per Agelii and Per Petersson help her with this huge undertaking, along with other helping hands.

what I am doing

For the Östersund show in September: the space is a nice, small room with a checkered red and white tile floor and the walls a mix of white plaster and red bricks. I felt a need to connect with the materials. So, I dug deep and found some old dark red earthenware clay, dry and hard as stone. After some days it was great to work with again and turned into smaller wreaths.

I stick to a theme of joy and sorrow.
For every clay leaf I put there, I think of all the sorrow that friends and families of the victims in Norway feel. So much sorrow. No joy.

studio confusion

In between short summer trips I do studio work, that is the best holiday. Having time off from office work is a treat, but things are confused in the studio. In September I have a show up north in Östersund, at an artist run ceramic gallery and shop Drejeriet. I haven't been totally sure of what to bring and now suddenly time seems very short.

frantic days are over

 

The things I made for Stockholm Furniture Fair arrived there all right. Frantic days are over. I will take the train to Stockholm tomorrow myself. It's the first time I show my work like this and I think it will be fun. Hope to give you reports, there are a lot of side events too. I'll stay from Tuesday to Friday, in the KHVC stand A09:02, welcome to stop by!

almost there

Photos from last days work, frantic. Almost finished, hope to be all finished by end of this week, wish me luck.

Yesterday I gained some sense of control. Realized that I had transformed worries over the result to being stressed over the tight timeschedule. Still, I don't have much time but feel more relaxed. Rearranged all the pieces outside the studio, Ami gave a good eye, thank you! As always, it's at the very end of a work process the new ideas arrive. Like an inbuilt carrot to keep you continue.

Ami also did a good job cleaning the studio yesterday (again thank you!) because on Saturday 30.5 we have the annual Open Day at Konstepidemin, see the whole program here.

...comes sun. After work comes coffee break. The cups are from a porcelain print and paint collaboration some years ago, by studio partner Ami Lanmark and illustrator/painter Annmari Olsson (she is very funny).
