before summer came: atiz resiztans
Last day of a long summer holiday - soon I'll go swimming...
A long holiday has given time to sort all kind of things a life is filled with.
And all photos. And maybe catch up.
What happened in May:
I felt totally connected with my two work places, Konstepidemin and Blå Stället art space, when two Haiti artists, André Eugène and Jean Claude Saintilus, made a month long stop in Göteborg.
It made me realize how blessed I am, and will be even more in the future, to meet with all kinds of artists at my new job. It is a challenge to facilitate their visits and shows for maximum encounter for all. And the start of this adventure could not be better than with a Voudou Spirit theme.
Jean Claude and André are part of a group in Port au Prince, Haiti, Atiz Rezistans. Their work is highly integrated with the spiritual beliefs that live so strongly in the Haitian community. And a little brutal and yet with so much humour.

Atiz Rezistans arranges Ghetto Biennale, an international art biennial along Grand Rue, a main street of former glory in Port au Prince. Artists apply and stay for about a month to prepare their art projects.

In the one day workshop at Blå Stället with André Eugène and Jean Claude Saintilus were invited artists Faris Al-zwain, Yousra Samawi, Anna Unsgaard, Catrin Serck-Hanssen along with Faruq Omer, Ahmed Bachai och Abdulkareem Sadoon from the ORT ART group.
The Haitian guests were invited by the folk music gathering event at Konstepidemin, thanks to musician Sten Källman and his strong connection to the country.
Val Inc - Val Jeanty, another Haitin guest, unforgettable electronica performance, truly magic.
To just listen doesn't give the total experience but still:

svartöstan!
Svartöstan, Luleå; my birth place and pride. I´m so happy to visit. Times are same same, but different. Blackis, where my father used to dance and have fun as a young man, is still the place.
Heart warming concert night: First, seven songs in a row in Finnish mellow minor with "Handsome Johnny and the knives". After that Evighetens Orkester, spiced with some Norrlåtar members from older days - progressive folk. And a few bands more.
Listen to Evighetens orkester here...
Norrlåter, sista brevet från Liikavaara-Franz here...

thank you for the music
A while ago we had a folk music gathering "Spelmansstämma" at Konstepidemin. Hopefully it will be a growing annual happening, for musicians in all traditions to perform but even more to meet and play together. And for us non musicians to enjoy and dance. Welcome again next summer!
All my photos from that day in a Konstepidemin facebook album...

dance and music

So happy to see I'm not the only one taking a long summer break from blogging. Don't need to be afraid I missed too much. And happy to see so many back now. Much easier to read blogs when nights are dark.
Göteborg's biannual Dance and Theatre Festival is going on, there is so much to experience but I don't have much time. Glad I got a ticket in time, to see Bahok by choreographer Akram Khan, in the old opera theatre. It's really charming, all that velvet and gold, cosy.
Music by Nithin Sawhney, I love his music and his collaborations with many very different musicians. Watch videos here at his website.
There are quite a few on You Tube, look here
Enjoy!

kalebassi

There are so many beautifully crafted things at Kalebassi, in Haga here in Göteborg. West African art and craft, will be back with more photos. First some of the music instrument that Margareta, shop owner, specialises in.
Had such a good studio day, frantic clay work. No photos, in this phase it all looks very grey. As always, when preparing for a show, the process itself brings a lot of new ideas (work is born out of work, for me) there is not time to follow. Clay must dry, be fired, glazed and fired again, it takes so long.
Save the ideas that doesn't fit into the whole image this time, for later. Now I calculate what needs two firings and what can be direct fired, what must be done now and what can wait a little longer. Show opens April 19, at Lerverk. Not a too big space but of course I want to do as good as I can.
Camilla is going ceramic, looks very good! It's a collaboration with Karin for her new shop Manos.

peekaboo and music

Elvin enjoyed himself, and us, the other day at lunch in Blå Huset.
His multi talented mum Lotta Sjölin Cederblom is part of Markatta, along with Sanna Källman and Ingrid Brännström. They make poetic, funny and sometimes a little scary music theatre plays for children, enjoyable also for an adult. Accordion, cello, percussion; such a nice mix.
Listen here, you find them in the list under "Barnprogram" =music for children.
Simbi, African voodoo beat with Haitian influences, where Lotta is one of the singers, is also in that list, under "Folk and World".
There are so many great musicians at MCV, the artist run agency for West Swedish music. Click Radio MCV and listen all day!
Something to look at, too:

Full weekend program
Full weekend at Konstepidemin:
Per Petersson and Helen Dahlman keep their studios open Saturday and Sunday 12 - 16.

Per is my nextdoor neighbor sculptor, skilled in so many materials and techniques. He is often the one who finds technical solutions for other artists, in his own work he combines material and computer skills with a poetical mind.

Helen Dahlman tells embroidered stories, stitch by stitch, sometimes funny and sometimes scary. Always beautiful.

Sunday pavillion program, at 18.00: Music artists Lennart och Anna-Karin tell the story how their characters were born, as a failed attempt to bore people to death.
How many times did I write Konstepidemin now?
My friend Annie emailed this link, maybe gets us in wild and crazy Friday night mood. Enjoy your weekend!

five meter bowls

Thinking of how to show pieces at Örebro exhibition. One option is a five meter long table for the bowls, would look something like this. Think the room is too short, though.
Still have a terrible cold, don't get much done. Went to a presentation this morning with friend and soft voiced jazz singer Malin Enberg, listen here!
We share a secret love to File Maker, a computer data base program, which was the topic of the day.

Up the hill to my studio is this tree, a salutation of the fall. Missed it a bit last week, I knew it had the most magnificent peak of the season while I was away, but this is still enough.
