northern artist; Peter Wiklund

Last weekend Peter Wiklund opened his show at Göteborgs Konstförening. He is an old friend from early art school days at Sunderby Folkhögskola up north. It is fantastic to follow someones work for a long time like this, and see his paintings develop and change over time. I like them so much.

I have a new colleague at my office job. Pernilla Norrman will work for KHVC craft organisation in southern Sweden. Pernilla Norrman is a great ceramic artist too, earthenware work, look here!

Open Studios at Konstepidemin this weekend:
Lena Rydén and Åke Nordström, Saturday and Sunday, 12 - 16.

Lena studied traditional Chinese ink painting and uses the techniques in her own motifs. She also gives studio workshops now and then, it's a whole process of painting and then mounting the thin, almost transparent rice paper sheets, layer by layer.

Sunday: Andreas Roth gives a monologue with music by Krusakvaretten. Translated the title is "All I don't know about Mozart" at Söndagspaviljongen på Konstepidemin (click "aktuellt").

Elsa Agelii, painter and free embroidery artist, is blogging from India (in Swedish). She will study places where water is kept sacred and do embroidery together with desert women.

Back in normal studio life again, feels fine. Long lunch breaks with Konstepidemin colleagues, we have so much to talk about. Playing around with ideas, more and more crazy plans for art projects, lots of laugh. Feeds me for afternoon solo work session.

This weekend's open studios will be at artists Andreas Roth and Tina Jerkenstam, Saturday and Sunday 12-16.

The picture above is on paper but Andreas also fills gallery walls from floor to ceiling with sentences, captivating maps of communication.

Work by two guests at Konstepidemin, visual artist Andrea Wollensak and sound artist Brett Terry can also be seen/heard. Listening sites; tracking stories, a satellite project in the ongoing Gothenburg International Art Biennial.

The work is reported at this website. Much of the truly poetic experience of the exhibition space is lost, not being able to see the beautiful photos, listen to the voices, read the words. Prefer being surrounded and with full senses. Computer screen is poor, but gives stranger's glimpses of Göteborg.


Daddy, photo Lars Åsling

Those who missed Lars Åsling's open studio last weekend get at second chance to see his work, exhibition at Olsson & Uddenberg gallery opens Saturday.

Lena Nilsson opened a show at Nääs Konsthantverk outside Göteborg, last week. She makes reliefs in the glass technique paté de verre, the most time consuming you can imagine. Result is well worth the effort.

Michaela Peterson, painter, and Kerstin Åsling, textile artist (click "ateljister" and find Kerstin in the list) are the two Konstepidemin artists with open studios this Saturday and Sunday 12-16. As part of the Art Biennal two artists' studios are open every weekend until end of November.

Next weekend, day after London trip, it's my turn! Busy packing and arranging things, if I don't get a chance to blog from London, have a joyful week!



Read in Zenit magazine (Swedish only) an article about Kerstin's button weaving. She is a grand lady of weaving, young in mind. Based in tradition but eager to take it a step forward.

And Gudrun Åsling, (yes, Kerstin's daughter) shows her paintings at Konstepidemin's main gallery, exhibition and new web page both opens today, Saturday.

first autumn day

The days are over now, when I could work with the door open. Stormy, rainy Friday, brings a message of what is to come; Gothenburg winter. Made more garland flowers and tried to plan for Örebro exhibition; what is missing in the whole?

Konstepidemin celebrates 20 years this year and do so with small and big events. Every weekend until end of November two of the artists will keep their studios open to visitors. Saturday and Sunday between 12-4, you are all welcome! Those of you who can't make it will have photos and links from here.
