chrysanthemum progress

My neighbor Per Agelii looks so content because he just unveiled his sculpture group "Three muses". The Keiller park in Göteborg celebrated 100 years this weekend (a good spot to see the fireworks at New Years Eve). See here, like "three harbour cranes" he writes.

There are two connections between my work and the picture of Per:
1. He is holding chrysanthemums, my flower of the week.
2. The park area was a donation by the Keiller family, who salvaged parts of the sunken Götheborg cargo = the china I'm making mosaic of now.

I'm happily working on, slip painting and printing.

week summary

I don't understand why. First I take a month off from the office job to get more time for studio work. Then I jump on all kinds of other things and don't get much more time for studio work at all. Please explain.

But it's been an interesting and fun week, altogether:
- Discussions on how to develop Konstepidemin and organize the staff for a future with new projects.
- A visit to a school; the atmosphere in the teacher's room still makes me feel insecure like a twelve years old (cup photo from their well organized coffee corner).
- Discussions on how to bring artists into school's work.
- And in between some clay work, too.

I'm slowly updating the Konstepidemin website, one step at the time. The English part still looks horrible but I'm happy to show the Swedish "what's up".

Bumped into Paula at an exhibition opening, she posts: Same same but better at the Röhss museum. Twelve jewelry artists discussing original and copies in an innovative way.

Kajsa Åman is a gem herself and one of the 12. She created a slightly more sophisticated copy of a 20 dollar piece of shopping mall jewellery using only precious gemstones and platinum. She spotlights the fact that a lot of cheap material jewellery consists of unsafe materials like lead (to bring more weight and thus give a feeling of being more valuable). Not good for me and not good for the factory worker.

Today; off to look at Jill Lindströms opening at Galleri PS. From another show here, article (Swedish) here.

chrysanthemums

Flowers for the mosaic, mine will be green when fired. Today I hope the plaster molds dried enough. Curious to see if they work.

Sandra and Famapa, two persons with sharp eyes, started a photo collaboration: How we say hello.

Sandra put together a wonderful flickr set from Göteborg, she brings me new views of my own town.

this weeks harvest

This week's studio harvest was 16 little clouds, 2 different plaster moulds for making lotus fruit shapes and 2 for making chrysanthemum shapes.

When sketching, I played around with different Chinese auspicious symbols for the mosaics. Thought that would be something good to meet either on your way out or on your way home. And they are just nice to look at even if you don't know a thing of their original meaning.

More symbols and their meaning
More clouds

Have a joyful weekwnd!

konstepidemin extra Saturday

Hanna Järlehed ceramics

Show openings tomorrow at Konstepidemin:

Hanna Järlehed Hyving makes a new kind of materia out of clay, amazing surfaces and glazes, photos above. It will be beautiful, I've sneak peaked.

Karin Seufert, at hnoss, jewellery artist from Berlin, Germany.

Joanna Helander, photography, in Blå Huset. This photo was on my wall for a long time.

More reasons to visit Konstepidemin tomorrow: Johan Zetterquist makes a sound performance, Torbjörn Steijner and Catrin Serck-Hanssen have open studios.

Camilla unveiled her next year's Göteborg film festival poster today. So good.

I enjoy studio work!

I enjoy doing only one thing at the time. I enjoy picking up a morning coffee in the restaurant before work. I enjoy making plans for the whole day and then be in the uninterrupted process. I enjoy having such nice neighbours around to have lunch with. I enjoy listening to the radio while working. And I enjoy the sun light we had today, so bright and warm.
