visit another studio

This week I've seen much more of other's creamic studios than my own. After the Katthagen visit I made another interview, with Annika Svensson for the KHVC newsletter. She is the person behind the tiled stoves I've posted earlier. More in next post.

First; the extra bonus I got from seeing work in progress by Annika's excellent studio partners:

Renata Francescon, most of her work already packed for a show at Clara Scremini Gallery in Paris in March.

Ulrika Henström (will show at Galleri Jeanette Ölund Borås in April)

Chris Vicini (will show at Formargruppen in Malmö in May)

and Josefin Holmqvist (she also made a commission for Terra Nova, where my mosaics are, a small pond for the Chinese garden, will post later)

I hope you have a lazy lovely weekend. I have.

textiles, at last

It's been a lot about ceramics lately, but here is finally something else. Elisabet Eriksson is a studio neighbor at Konstepidemin. She has a solo show at the gallery right now.

marie beckman & jussi ojala

Katthagen krukmakeri, Marie Beckman och Jussi Ojala

Photos from Monday and the trip to Katthagen krukmakeri, ceramic artists Marie Beckman's and Jussi Ojala's studio. Hemslöjden, handicraft and applied arts magazine, wanted me to make an interview with Marie. I've only seen their work at exhibitions before, to meet them live was really much nicer.

Marie is a member of blås&knåda, an important Swedish arena for contemporary craft artists. On show there right now is Jane Perryman, look inside her great book about Traditional Pottery of India.

Fabriken LDKP wants to create a ceramic energy center in Lidköping, at the former factory of Rörstrand. Yesterday was an information event here in Göteborg. There are fantastic facilities for studios, kilns, small scale production and ceramic knowhow. Fabriken LDKP in Swedish, not as much in English.
Paula quickly blogged from the mingle, see who was there.

hos pelle

Totally forgot to tell I have some of my bowls displayed at restaurant Hos Pelle. Pelle, the owner and master chef, is an art enthusiast and always have different artists showing their work at his friendly place. Not a gallery, but it works well, with high respect for all kinds of craft and quality. And the food is more than great. On the walls paintings by Bo Lindorm.

at my hill

Today I didn't know where to start, I have so many ongoing jobs, errands and little things to do. Starting from the top of the pile and simply do them as they appeared was a great idea. No strategies, no lists, no synchronizing, no thinking; just doing it. How efficient.

These are some erratic photos from todays necessary snow walk, Masthugget, we finally got snow here too. My favourite soccer team played a winter game this week.
Hope the weekend will be fun for us all.

Hayon studio, I like them here and here most

northern artist; Peter Wiklund

Last weekend Peter Wiklund opened his show at Göteborgs Konstförening. He is an old friend from early art school days at Sunderby Folkhögskola up north. It is fantastic to follow someones work for a long time like this, and see his paintings develop and change over time. I like them so much.

I have a new colleague at my office job. Pernilla Norrman will work for KHVC craft organisation in southern Sweden. Pernilla Norrman is a great ceramic artist too, earthenware work, look here!

ceramic colleagues

Kerstin Sarvimäki

Karin Östberg

Karin Östberg och Kerstin Sarvimäki are two of my ceramic colleagues at Konstepidemin. They share a small but super well organized studio. And they are busy!

Here are more photos from their studio, in another blog I'm joggling with.

cinderella and spring cleaning

Big Wind Cinderella

Ceramic artist Herman Fogelin

This weekend seem extra long. Best of all, there was time enough for art events, spring cleaning and friends, so good. Lazy Sunday evening ahead.

We saw a great premiere; Cinderella as a "panto" by Big Wind theatre group, like a British form of commedia dell'arte. As fun for kids as grownups. Great costumes by Per Agelii, Karin Agelii and Kicki Lindbeck with lots of clever details like the knitted wigs. Cinderella will be played in Göteborg also next week and later be on tour. Borrow a child and go see it if you have a chance!

Also at the City Library, art bought by the city last year on show, before it's placed at institutions around town. Among them a big urn by well known Göteborg ceramic artist Herman Fogelin.

Good luck with your week!

february: sun in studio

Every February is an eager wait for the sun to manage climbing over the little hill and shine into my studio. And now it's here!

Mansuetude tagged me "Share a phrase that rings important inside you--" and here is what came up, with the little story behind:

Some years ago one of the nasty mail viruses spread others's long since sent emails as new emails, randomly around the internet. I received a few emails by total strangers that period, most very uninteresting. But it made me aware of what I write in emails myself, the private can suddenly be made public.

Then one day this email came, once written to someone else, but seemeingly truly directed to me who needed it most. The quote written in it helped me through some difficulties that day, mistakes that could have grown much bigger. I read it before making an important phone call and I still look at it where I put it on the wall by my office desk. Still very useful. Once written by Piet Hein (Danish multithinker and designer, most famous for the superellipse) later quoted in an email between two friends and by divine or viral intervention given to me. I'm very thankful.

"The noble art of loosing face
may one day save the human race
and turn into eternal merit
what weaker minds would call disgrace"

More Piet Hein short wise Grooks here
I need to think a little more on what tag to forward.

Recently I haven't posted so much here, seems like there is a certain amount of internet time each day and I've spent mine posting at the Konstepidemin blog, like from Michaela Peterson's studio.

Happy Valentine's Day!

This is what real winter looks like

It must have been the best day this winter. We went skiing, at Valfjället, a little mountain in Värmland. Very, very cosy little place.

craft salon

Last week opened a new craft juried show Konstslöjdsalong at Röhss museum, with craft seen in a wide sense. 50 Swedish craft artist were selected and I really enjoyed the show. It was announced on national TV, in Kulturnyheterna, as an exhibition with entrances with new craft from young craft artists. If they had not been ignorant for the cultural field of craft for years, they would have known the age range stretches from around 20 - 75. Elderly craft artists seem to be young at heart :)

So many talented people, the whole list here... More photos at Kurbits here...
Hope your weekend is full of fun!

back to gloomy

Elisabet Eriksson, Galleri Konstepidemin

Back to normal Göteborg winter, different shades of grey.

This week I posted more in Konstepidemin's blogg than here. There was more to tell there, I've done mostly office job myself.

Opening Day on Saturday: among other things ceramic artists Karin Östberg and Kerstin Sarvimäki will have their studios open, and so will painter and sculptor Michaela Peterson. Textile artist Elisabet Eriksson (photo above) will open her solo show in the gallery and Erik Kuiper show jewellery at hnoss gallery. Whole Saturday program here.

I hope the sun is shining on you all this weekend!
